Athlete’s Foot (fungal infection)

We all love to get wet in the rains but wet dirty feet can invite fungal infections. Due to dampness the rainy season is the favorable season for the fungal spores to germinate and form fungi colonies. Athlete’s foot is a common contagious fungal infection that occurs mostly on the skin between the toes, in one or both the feet. It is caused by dermatophytes, a group of fungi that mainly thrive in warm and humid areas between the toes.

Symptoms

  • Itching, stinging, burning sensation in between toes
  • Scaly rash
  • Skin in between toes can crack, peel or there can be blisters If not treated on time the fungal infection can lead to bacterial infection

  • Footwear should be open that allow the feet to breathe and avoid wearing closed shoes for long periods of time.
  • Before retiring to bed always wash and dry the feet and if suffering from Athlete’s foot apply fresh turmeric juice in the infected area. Turmeric is known for its antifungal properties
  • During the day practice stretching exercises of feet and toes which increases blood circulation
  • Sujok Therapy:
    1. Gently twist toes clockwise-anticlockwise for a minute, 4 times daily (as shown in Pic 1)
    2. Daily colour small toe of either foot, dark blue or black (as shown in Pic 2)

But we need to be very careful to prevent heat stroke, one of the most dangerous forms of heat related illnesses. Heat stroke can lead to multiple organ failure and can also be fatal, if the person does not receive emergency treatment.

What is Heat Stroke?

Heat stroke is a condition when body cannot control its temperature, that can rapidly rise to 104 F (40 C) or higher within a few minutes. The body is unable to cool itself because sweating mechanism fails.

Symptoms

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Headache
  • Rapid breathing
  • Abdominal pain
  • Muscle cramps
  • Hallucinations
  • Seizures
  • Loss of consciousness
