Obesity increases the risk possibility of type 2 Diabetes by six times

According to WHO obesity is today the leading global health serious problem. Obesity is the major cause of type 2 diabetes which increases the risk of serious life-threatening health issues like heart disease, kidney failure and nerve damage. By 2025 the prevalence of obesity-related type 2 diabetes is expected to reach 300 million!

What is obesity?

Obesity is a chronic metabolic condition in which there is excess fat (adipose tissue) accumulation in the body. It is defined as the Body Mass Index (BMI) exceeding 30 kg/m2.

Causes of obesity

  • Insufficient physical activity
  • Unhealthy eating habits
  • Stress
  • Lack of sleep
  • Genetic

Relation between Obesity and Diabetes

Insulin transports glucose to muscle cells and liver for release of energy. Obesity increases fatty acids and inflammation which makes cells resistant to insulin, resulting in excess glucose in blood which gradually leads to type 2 diabetes.
